Elopements and Wee Weddings

I hate to mention the dreaded “C” word but the Coronavirus epidemic has gotten a lot of us thinking about what’s truly important in life - our loved ones, being together and the little things in life.

Whether you’ve had disappointments or stress during your wedding planning or you were already thinking about a small but by no means least meaningful day, an elopement or wee wedding could be just for you!

At the end of the day, what matters most is your commitment to one another and starting this new chapter of your lives together. With an elopement or a wee wedding, you can still have a day that’s meaningful to you both without feeling the pressure of pleasing others and getting overwhelmed with the enormity of planning. Although elopements and weddings still involve planning and preparation, I believe it’s a much more enjoyable experience.

One of the most important things to consider for an elopement or wee wedding is the location - where can you get married? In Scotland we’re certainly spoiled for choice, whether it be an intimate ceremony in the mountains, by the sea or at your local registry office with tea and cake afterwards, you can’t go wrong!

It also doesn’t have to be a quick hour or two shoot with your photographers/videographers - it can be made into a whole day of fun with elements that are important to you both. After the ceremony you could have a picnic with your partner or close family and friends with celebrations into the night. Where there are smiles there is good food, am I right?! Or you could go for a hike or a dip in the sea if you love the mountains and the beach. There’s plenty of options to still make it the day of your dreams.

If certain elements of tradition still mean a lot to you, you could incorporate getting ready separately into your day and still have that first look when you approach the end of the aisle. With wee weddings, you can also have the benefit of having your parents there to help you get ready in the morning. They are beautiful moments with emotion and anticipation for the day ahead.
